PhD Position: Personalising Women's Health with Wearable Data (m/f/d)

We seek to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching and particularly encourage qualified female scientists to apply for this position.
Severely disabled applicants with equal aptitude will be given preferential consideration.
Full-time positions are generally divisible.
The Institute of Biomedical Engineering conducts research at the forefront of medical wearables to advance remote monitoring and improve patient outcomes. The goal of this project is to develop novel methods to address challenges in the largely neglected field of women’s health. The research topics may involve areas such as algorithm development, machine learning, and the integration of physiological data from multiple data streams to create personalised health profiles and design informed interventions.

Your profile

  • Hold a Master’s degree (or be near its completion) in a relevant discipline such as Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in topics related to women's health and physiology, such as hormonal and circadian rhythms, sleep, and stress, and the application of technology to improve health outcomes.
  • Possess strong interest and aptitude in data analysis, algorithm development, and interpreting time-series data.
  • Solid mathematical background in machine learning. Experience with application of artificial intelligence in the context of health data analysis would be advantageous.
  • Familiarity with relevant programming languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB) and data handling techniques is highly desirable.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to contribute to cutting-edge research.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Be team-oriented and possess strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team and academic and industrial partners.

Your responsibilities:

  • Conducting cutting-edge research into the application of wearable sensors for monitoring and understanding various aspects of women's health.
  • Designing and implementing algorithms for the personalised analysis of data collected from wearables.
  • Analysing large datasets of physiological data to identify patterns and insights relevant to women's health.
  • Collaborating with healthcare professionals and other stakeholders to ensure the clinical relevance and usability of developed solutions.
  • Contributing to the dissemination of research findings through publications and presentations.
  • Staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in wearable technology, machine learning and women's health research.

We offer:

  • The opportunity to be at the forefront of innovation and research in women's health, AI and wearable technology.
  • A stimulating and collaborative working environment within a dynamic and growing team.
  • An interdisciplinary and innovative research environment.
